Band 7

Band 7 is a FULL YEAR ELECTIVE. Band 7 gives students the opportunity to learn and understand musical notes, rhythms, symbols, terms, as well as a chance to develop proficiency on their current band instrument.  Students are encouraged to learn other instruments provided by the school to balance the band ensemble. The school instruments that students can learn are oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, French horn, baritone, and tuba. ALL BAND MEMBERS ARE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE AT EVENING PERFORMANCES.

 

Band 8

Band 8 is a FULL YEAR ELECTIVE. Band 8 gives the students the opportunity to become more proficient musically on extended note ranges for their current band instrument, rhythms, music symbols, and music terms. Students are encouraged to learn other instruments provided by the school to balance the band ensemble. The school instruments that students can learn are oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, French horn, baritone, and tuba. The students will perform at half-time of a varsity football game with the Eisenhower Marching Eagles, the Homecoming Parade, Winter and Spring band concerts, a Pre-Festival Clinic, MSBOA Band and Orchestra Festival, and Solo and Ensemble (optional performance opportunity). At the end of their 8^th grade year, band students can join the Eisenhower Marching Eagles for the following year. ALL BAND MEMBERS ARE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE AT EVENING PERFORMANCES.

 

Band 9

Band 9 is a FULL YEAR ELECTIVE. Band 9 gives the students the opportunity to rehearse and perform high school band music. The students are required to know all the notes on their band instrument, rhythms, music symbols, and music terms. Students are encouraged to learn other instruments provided by the school to balance the band ensemble. The school instruments that students can learn are oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, French horn, baritone, and tuba. Jazz Band

Jazz Band is an audition-only FULL YEAR ELECTIVE for 8^th and 9^th grade students. Students who play the alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, electric or upright bass guitar, and drum set are eligible to take Jazz Band. All instruments are required to read music notation and be proficient on their instrument. The Jazz Band will perform at concerts and MSBOA State Jazz Festival. All performances are mandatory for each student in Jazz Band. The Jazz Band will rehearse Big Band, Swing, Funk, Latin, and other genres of jazz music. Students will learn how to improvise solos, play jazz articulations, and listen to different genres of jazz. Students interested in Jazz Band need to contact the band director for audition music. Students must audition and be approved by the director to take the Jazz Band class.
